Defeated Faith

Defeated Faith. Just the statement is an oxymoron.

Have you ever felt that way?

Defeated Faith.

I have. I do.

I feel defeated with one specific situation in my life; it’s fair to say even lost faith a little.

I feel faith for a multitude of other situations; it’s fair to say a deep steadfast, immovable faith.

I’ve cried recently speaking to God about it, questioning God…how can I feel both?!

I’m human.

I’m flawed.

It’s personal.

It’s a matter of the heart.

I’ve let doubt creep in.

I’ve let an unknown future be outlined by the present.

I’ve spoken defeat out loud.

I’ve let my heartbreak define the situation instead of the hope and possibilities with God.

Here’s the thing…

My situation may not change. Your situation may not either. Except…They may.

We don’t have control, nor do we know the future. But here’s what we do know…

With God all things are possible.

“Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God.” Mark 10:27

God is faithful.

“Know therefore that the Lord your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commandments.” Deuteronomy 7:9

Faith can move mountains.

“Jesus replied, “Truly I tell you, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and it will be done.” Matthew 21:21

Perspectives should be eternal.

“So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.” 2 Corinthians 4:18

Hopefully, these scriptures offer encouragement that when we struggle with feeling defeated, and we all do, we can surrender to the Father. We can sit at his feet and remember that He is for us. It’s in our surrender to Him, not our circumstances, we acknowledge that when we feel weak or defeated God Almighty is not.

“But he said to me,

“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”

Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.”

2 Corinthians 12:9 NIV

Father, thank you for being faithful even in my doubt and feelings of defeat when my heart wavers by looking at what is versus what could be with You. You, Lord, are the WayMaker. You fulfilled your promise to Abraham years later, Noah built an Ark with no rain being seen, and Daniel worshipped You despite his situation. Help me speak out the possibilities, help me believe like Abraham, have faith like Noah, and obedience like Daniel. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
