Life. It’s made up of rollercoasters and winding roads.
There are rarely straight paths. The older I get the more this has become a realization. I continually learn to adjust and at times, have learned to enjoy the unexpected ride and cruise down the winding roads. Why? Because during these unexpected rides there is always something to learn about God’s Word, myself, and others God has entrusted to me. But what I learn the most during these rides is my absolute, complete, need for my Savior, Jesus Christ.
He is the One that is always on the ride with me.
He is the joy felt in my heart despite seen circumstances or tears streaming down my cheeks.
He is the One that gives rest to my mind, heart, and body when I am weary.
He is the One who refreshes my dry bones.
He is my eternal hope.
No matter what rollercoaster or winding road you may be on in your own life, hold on to hope, for the lover of your soul is with you. Always. In these devotionals, I’ve mentioned a few times the fact that God cannot lie. I do this as a reminder to myself and to you that anytime there is a scripture noted it is God-breathed truth. Period.
How comforting is that? That no matter the ride or road we find ourselves on whether exhilarating or disheartening God’s Word is firm and unmovable despite the twists and turns of life.
“For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory; while we do not look at the things which are seen but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.” 2 Corinthians 4:17-18
“According to Your steadfast love refresh me and give me life, so that I may keep and obey the testimonies of Your mouth.” Psalm 119:88
“I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances.” Philippians 4:11
If you’re reading these truth-filled words for the first time or rereading them for the hundredth time, the key is remembering the beauty of this life isn’t filled with pain-free circumstances, but experiencing trials with God in the midst of twists and turns of life is where the real beauty is found. It’s the secret place where we remember our hearts should be focused on having an eternal impact in a temporary world. Our ride is meant to bring us and those we impact through the finish line into the eternal. The one thing that is an absolute promise, going through life with Jesus will be…
Lord, praise You for being who you are, a truth speaker. Thank you for this precious life, for the ability to learn, grow and have a relationship with You in this temporary world while we wait on our eternal one. Lord, may our attitude be one of finding the beauty in the twists and turns of life knowing that You are always in control, no matter the ride we’re on. May we be thankful for this temporary ride while being focused on the eternal one. In Jesus Name. Amen.
