Welcome to our dive into Second Corinthians chapter one! This week, we’re focusing on our SOAKER verse, 2 Corinthians 1:3-4, which beautifully illustrates God’s comfort and compassion. Let’s explore how this powerful passage encourages us to receive and share God’s comfort with others.
Our SOAKER verse of the week is 2 Corinthians 1:3-4:
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God.” (BSB)
S: Spend Time in Prayer
Let’s start by praying:
“Father, we ask You to open our hearts to Your Word. Holy Spirit, teach us what You want us to learn and reveal insights that will change our lives and others for Your Kingdom. We love You and give You praise in Jesus’ name. Amen.”
O: Open His Word
In the BSB translation, God is described as “the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort,” who comforts us so that we can pass that comfort on to others. To gain a clearer understanding of words like “blessed,” “compassion,” “comfort,” and “trouble,” read the definition in the Strongs Concordance. You may also find the Webster’s 1828 Dictionary helpful.
The New Living Translation reads: “All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we can give them the same comfort God has given us.”
A: Ask Questions
To grasp the depth of this passage, we ask:
1. What’s the main message of this passage?
– The main message is that God’s comfort in our suffering is not just for us but is intended to be shared with others.
2. What does the compassion of God look like?
God’s compassion is seen in Jesus’ actions and feelings towards those in need. For example, Jesus was moved by the plight of the people and acted with compassion, healing the sick and comforting the distressed.
K: Keep It Before You
Keep this verse before you throughout the week. Download our wallpaper with this verse to keep it on your phone, or write it on a mini chalkboard, sticky notes, or any place where you’ll see it often. Keeping His Word visible helps it stay in your heart and mind.
E: Enlightened
Ask the Holy Spirit to teach you what He wants you to learn. I felt that God’s comfort is not just for us but is meant to be shared with others. Through every trial, He offers strength and comfort that we are called to pass on.
R: Respond
Father, thank you for the love and comfort you have lavished on us. Help us receive and embrace your comfort. Help us freely share the comfort you have given us with other so they may embrace Your goodness.
