S: Spend Time in Prayer

We begin by asking God to reveal His truth to us:

“Father, we again open our hearts to you. Holy Spirit, teach us what you would have us learn. Let Your word be illuminated in our hearts. We thank You for it in Jesus’ name. Amen.”

O – Open His Word

Let’s read our verses in different translations.

But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumph in Christ, andVerse Mapping 2nd Corinthians Chapter 2:14-15 through us spreads and makes evident everywhere the sweet fragrance of the knowledge of Him. 15 For we are the sweet fragrance of Christ [which ascends] to God, [discernible both] among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing; (AMP)

But thanks be to God, who always leads us in victory through Christ. God uses us to spread his knowledge everywhere like a sweet-smelling perfume. 15 Our offering to God is to be the perfume of Christ that goes out to those who are being saved and to those who are being lost. (ERV)

A – Ask Questions

To fully understand these verses, it is important to ask questions.  Here are some of the questions I asked as I studied the passage:

  1. What does victory look like?

According to this verse, Victory is walking in God’s light and obeying His plans, even when it doesn’t align with worldly standards. It’s about living according to His purposes and glory, as illustrated by Paul’s faithfulness despite his hardships.

  1. What is the purpose of this triumphal procession?

The purpose is to spread the fragrance of Christ’s knowledge everywhere. We are called to be that sweet aroma, drawing people into the kingdom of God. This role is central to our existence as believers.

  1. What does “fragrance” signify in this context?

The fragrance represents the impact of our lives as we live out and share the gospel. It symbolizes our witness and testimony of Christ’s influence in our lives.

K – Keep the Word Before You

To keep the word before you, meditate on it day and night. Reflect on the idea that we are the aroma of Christ. Consider how you can embody and share this fragrance in your daily life. Think about how you can be a positive influence and spread the knowledge of Christ in your interactions with others.  What are some ways you can keep His Word before you?  Download the Scripture wallpaper? Write in on an index card?

E – Enlighten

Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal what He wants you to learn from the passage:

Here is what the Lord spoke to my heart: The image of being led in a triumphal procession is powerful and humbling. It signifies that, though we face trials, we are in a position of victory through Christ. We are not merely spectators; we are participants in a divine celebration, actively spreading His message.  It is a responsibility and a privilege.

R – Respond to Scripture

How will you respond to this scripture in your daily life? Consider these practical steps:

Live Victoriously: Embrace the victory Christ has given you and live it out daily. Even in challenging circumstances, recognize that you are part of a triumphant procession in Him.

Spread the Fragrance: Actively seek opportunities to share the gospel and be a witness to Christ’s love. Your actions and words should reflect the knowledge of Christ, influencing those around you.

Embrace your role as the aroma of Christ. Live in such a way that your life reflects His love and grace, making a tangible difference in the lives of those around you.

Meditate and Pray: Regularly meditate on this passage and pray for strength to fulfill your role as the aroma of Christ. Ask for guidance on how to best represent Him in your life.
