Wax-On Wax-Off, God Lessons from the Karate Kid

Have you ever wanted to do something, or has God told you to do something, but you have no clue what to do or how to start? You could start looking in a book or in all the wrong places to learn. But instead, you go to the right place; you go to God. Once you spend some time with Him to figure it out, He will give you a little more of the pieces of the puzzle of what you are to do.

But then God tells you to go wash and wax the cars. What? If you are listening, He tells you just the way He wants you to do it. Wax on with the right hand, wax off with the left hand… You are like, okay, this is crazy, but if you say so.

God’s word says in Proverbs 3:5-6, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.  In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6 ESV

You do what He said because you TRUST the Father.

Later, God tells you to sand the floors. He tells you just the way he wants it done. Sand one way right, sand another way left.

Again, because you TRUST Him even though you don’t understand, you do it.

“Some trust in chariots and some in horses,  but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.” Psalm 20:7 ESV

Some trust the sander they are using; others trust God. What are you trusting in?

God tells you to paint the fence and the house but a certain color and a certain way.. You do it because He says, but you are at a breaking point. You are frustrated, angry, and upset because you still aren’t doing what God said you would be doing. To you, it might seem like petty stuff, the washing and waxing of cars, the sanding the floor, and the painting of the house and fence. But..

YOU CAN’T SEE THE BIGGER PICTURE!!!!

Trust in the Lord, and do good;  dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness.   Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Psalm 37:3-4 ESV

Now, after trusting God for many reasons,  He says, ” NOW, you are ready for what I have called you to do.” Now, you are over here thinking ? and flipping out…. You are saying to God, ” No, I’m not; I can’t do this”. Instead of life, you keep speaking death.

“Death and life are in the power of the tongue.” Proverbs 18:21 ESV

Then you also remember Hebrews 13:21:

“Equip you with everything good that you may do his will, working in us that which is pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.Hebrews 13:21 ESV

God loves us so much, but we wrestle with God or say to God, really? What was wax on wax off? What was sanding the floor? What was painting the fence? What was painting the house?

Then it hits you like a ton of bricks…. even though you have been tired and frustrated. God has had you in training for just a time as this…

So my question to you:

1) How much are you trusting God?

My life verse is Proverbs 3:5-6. I have made it this far because I preach that verse and many others to myself.

2) Are you in training and don’t see it?

Ask God about your training or what He wants you to train for!!! And then listen for His answer.

“… Sometimes What Heart Know, Head Forget.”
