Strong for the Call | Caring for Your Body to Live with Purpose

Woman Exercising Living Caring for the Body God Gave Her to Live with Purpose

Introduction

When we think about living on purpose for God’s glory, we often focus on our spiritual walk, our relationships, or our calling—and rightly so.

But have you ever considered that how we care for our physical bodies plays a significant role in fulfilling God’s purpose?

This week, as we continue the Living Life on Purpose for His Glory series, we’re turning our attention to a vital and often overlooked truth:

Living with purpose as a Christian includes caring for the body God gave you—so you can say “yes” to the things He’s called you to.

It’s not about chasing a number on the scale. It’s about stewarding our health with intentionality, so we have the strength and stamina to walk in obedience and serve well.

God Cares About Your Whole Being

Scripture reminds us that our bodies are not our own:

“Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.”
— 1 Corinthians 6:19–20 (ESV)

God created us—body, mind, and spirit. And just as we nurture our faith and guard our thoughts, we are called to honor Him with our physical health.

It’s not about vanity. It’s about vitality—being strong, clear-minded, and ready to follow where He leads.

Our Bodies and Our Purpose Are Connected

Man and Woman caring for the bodies with intention as part of their Christian walkWhen we’re exhausted, sluggish, or out of balance physically, it often affects every other part of our lives—our energy, our patience, even our willingness to step out in faith.

That doesn’t mean we need to be perfect. But it does mean being intentional.

Caring for our bodies as Christians isn’t a side note—it’s part of our worship. When we treat our health as a gift and a responsibility, we position ourselves to better serve, respond, and endure.

“Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well.”
— 3 John 1:2 (NIV)

What It Looks Like to Be “Strong for the Call”

Take Care of Body God Gave Us by Hydrating Drinking WaterHere are a few practical ways to begin caring for the body God gave you—on purpose, with grace:

 1. Listen to Your Body

  • Pay attention to what it needs—rest, movement, hydration, margin.
  • Don’t push through burnout or neglect real needs in the name of productivity.
  • Steward your energy so you can say “yes” when He calls.

2. Fuel Wisely

  • Nourish your body with foods that give strength, not just comfort.
  • Ask: Is what I’m eating helping or hindering the mission God’s given me today?

3. Move with Purpose

  • Movement is not punishment—it’s preparation.
  • Whether it’s walking, stretching, or exercising, keep your body strong so you can serve long.

4. Rest Without Guilt

  • Even Jesus rested (Mark 6:31). So can you.
  • Build rhythms of Sabbath, sleep, and silence into your life to stay grounded and restored.

Final Encouragement

You don’t have to pursue “perfect”—but you can pursue purpose.
And part of that purpose is caring for the body God gave you, so you can go where He sends you, love who He puts in front of you, and stay strong for the long haul.

So let’s live with intention—in spirit, mind, and body.

“They will still bear fruit in old age, they will stay fresh and green, proclaiming, ‘The Lord is upright; He is my Rock…’”
— Psalm 92:14–15 (NIV)
