I desire to share the love of Jesus, not just through words, but through my everyday actions. I want to provide those far away from Jesus, glimpses of Him through my life. Daily we encounter those who have never known the love of Jesus, and for many of those people, words are not enough. They shrink away from Christian platitudes like “Have a Blessed Day”, “I will pray for you” and “Do you personally know our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ?” Those words without action are meaningless. They fall on deaf ears, going nowhere.
Someone once told me “that we are to tell the whole world about Jesus, using words only if necessary.” Actions speak louder than words to those people we encounter who don’t know Jesus; or if they know Jesus, those who are turned off by religion and its rules and the perceived hypocrisy of it all. What if, rather than asking someone if they know the love of Jesus, instead show them His love through our actions? Instead of words, we offer them a smile, or maybe a drink of water on a hot day, or a hot meal on a cold day, or maybe a listening ear, or even a hug? By smiling at them, we show others the joy we find in Jesus. By serving them, we offer glimpses of the real Jesus.
Jesus said”:
“If anyone wants to be first, he must be the very last, and the servant of all.”
Mark 9:35
Jesus embodied the ultimate servant. When Jesus washed His disciples’ feet, Jesus showed His love with actions. When we serve others, the hearts of those we serve are softened, conversations are started, doors are opened, opportunities arise until finally we can speak the message of salvation to their hearts and show them glimpses of Jesus.
My prayer for all of us: “Lord, I want to reflect your light so that those who do not know You will want to know you. Let the people I encounter today see something different in me, let them see You.”
